Clean Energy in Buffalo
Governor Cuomo was in Buffalo for the groundbreaking event for the SolarCity solar manufacturing plant at RiverBend. This clean-energy and technology hub will be on the site of the former Republic Steel plant in South Buffalo.
The State will contribute $750 million to the 1.2 million-square-foot high-tech facility, which is being built by SolarCity at the Riverbend site in Buffalo. SolarCity, which is led by billionaire Tesla founder Elon Musk, will spend $5 billion to build what will be the largest solar manufacturing facility in Western Hemisphere.
The project is expected to result in 5,000 new jobs in the state, about 3,000 of those in Buffalo. Local Union 210 along with other building trades attended the press conference in addition to representatives from the NYS LECET Fund.
